Difference Between Scrap and Vanilla Weapons

Typically these scrap weapons have worse stats than their vanilla counterparts. However the difference is that you can craft them.

Meaning you no longer have to care as much about weapon durability. Just simply use the best scrap weapons within your crafting skill.

Exclusions

You’ll notice that there are a few weapons missing from the list. Their stats are either too low to be worth mentioning or are too heavy to be useful.

Whilst the Heavy Wood Axe is a useful as a pick up weapon in vanilla. When it comes to crafting you simply wouldn’t bother with these slow swinging death traps.

The Gear Mace, Salvaged Cleaver, Micromaul, Sharpened Stop Sign, Huge Scrap Pick Axe and Salvaged Sledgehammer all have heavy endurance modifiers.

A slow attack speed and quick to exhaust. Best to avoid these.

S-Tier

Basically these are the end game weapons you’ll want to craft. The Salvaged Blade, Salvaged Spear and Salvaged Machete are all top tier weapons.

The Blade is arguably the best primary scrap weapon. It has the most damage, pretty much as much range as a spear and is lighter.

Plus you won’t have to deal with that slow one shot animation that can be deadly on spears. However do note that the Spear is more useful when exhausted.

The Salvaged Machete is a one handed weapon that can be placed on your belt. Making it a great backup weapon or when you need the other hand free.

Scrap Blades require Lv. 4 Metalworking, 2x Metal Bar, 1x Small Metal Sheet, 5x Leather Strips, 1x Sturdy Stick, Propane Torch, Welder Mask, File, Hammer and Saw to craft.

A-Tier

The 2 Spears are both solid weapons. They are basically an alternative to the Spear with Hunting Knife. However are inferior to the Salvaged Spear.

There are also 3 one handed weapons in this tier. These are the Salvaged Nightstick, Salvaged Pipe Wrench and Tire Iron Axe.

The Nightstick has an attack speed advantage however not being able to holster it is a big downside.

The Pipe Wrench can be placed on your belt, this is an advantage over the Tire Iron Axe which will take up your back slot.

Out of these 3 the Tire Iron Axe doesn’t require a vanilla weapon to craft. But then again Pipe Wrenches are pretty common.

If you’re after a one hand weapon the Salvaged Machete is the way to go. However the Salvaged Pipe Wrench can also be used to cut down trees.

B-Tier

The Tin Can Club boasts surprisingly good stats. As for the rest of the weapons, they are still an upgrade over your basic crowbar and baseball bat.

The 3 Baseball Bats all have the same stats (basically the vanilla Spiked Baseball Bat). They do require the vanilla bat to craft but now that you aren’t worried about durability you’d might as well take the extra damage.

C-Tier

Getting into pretty low damage Tier now. These weapons are not much better than your conventional Hammer.

Whilst the Salvaged Club does deal significantly more damage than other weapons in its tier. Being a short weapon is a big downside.

The Salvaged Crowbar has better attack speed than its vanilla version. Whilst you’ll lose a lot of durability, it’s not such a priority anymore.

The Salvaged Climbing Axe requires a Hand Axe. But loses the ability to cut down trees. It receives more durability so as a weapon this is nice to have. But maybe just keep the Hand Axe as a tool.

The Salvaged Shiv is a short blade weapon. Typically in Project Zomboid you’ll want to avoid getting close and personal.
