The Garage Module in Heat Pedal to the Metal board game adds a variety of cards to draft, let’s take a look at some of the best upgrade cards to pick.

Tier List

Here are some of the best cards you can draft from the Garage Module (try to draft a mix of high speed cards for long straights and low speed cards to help with turns ie. check speed points):

TierCard (Benefit)Notes
S
Turbo Charger (8 Speed, 1 Heat, 6 Scrap)
The highest consistent speed card.
S
Brakes (1/5 Speed)
Very flexible, both useful on long straights and turns.
S
Gas Pedal (4 Speed, Direct Play, 1 Heat, 1 Cooldown)
Good speed, can be played after cards are revealed and essentially free if you have heat in your hand (great for managing stress variable speed).
S
Suspension (4 Speed, Refresh)
Always having a 4 speed is consistently useful.
S
Body (5 Speed, 1 Reduce Stress)
Great Speed and can discard 1 Stress, great on straights.
A
Suspension (2 Speed, Refresh, 1 Cooldown)
Always having the ability to cooldown is very good.
A
4 Wheel Drive (+++)
Average 7.5 Speed, however can be inconsistent. You may want to pair this with Gas Pedal 4 just in case you roll low.
A
Heat
Having more heat to use is very good provided you have the cooldown to manage it.
A
4 Wheel Drive (4 Speed, +)
Average 6.5 Speed at no cost. Quite good.
A
Gas Pedal (3 Speed, Direct Play, 3 Scrap)
Decent speed, can be played after cards are revealed (great for managing stress variable speed)
A
Body (2 Speed, 1 Reduce Stress, 1 Cooldown, 2 Scrap)
Reduce stress and heat, great on turns due to its low speed.
A
Cooling System (4 Speed, 2 Scrap, 1 Cooldown)
Good Speed and you get 1 Cooldown.
A
Wings (3 Speed, 2 Scrap, +2 Check Speed)
Essentially saves you 2 heat.

6 Speed and is free if you have heat in your hand.

Tires (1 Speed, 2 Scrap, +1 Check Speed)
Essentially saves you 1 heat.
B

Essentially saves you 1 heat.
B
Tires (3 Speed, -1 Corner Speed Limit, 2 Cooldown)
Cooldown on long straights.
B
Body (3 Speed, 2 Reduce Stress)
Ok speed but can be useful if you have a deck that struggles with stress.
B
Cooling System (3 Speed, 1 Cooldown)
Ok speed but can be useful for managing heat.
B
Brakes (2/4 Speed)
Quite flexible, decent on long straights and corners.

Other Cards

The tier list doesn’t contain all the cards. The ones not ranked typically are not worth the heat cost, are hard to use (eg. Tires cards with increased check speed but variable speed), have contradictory benefits to their speed (eg. low speed with cool down) or cards where it is hard to make the most of (3 Cooldown or 3 Stress Reduction cards).

There are also the R.P.M and Fuel cards which have been left out. These can be very useful however can be harder to make use of. Best left for more advanced players.

R.P.M (Slipstream)

R.P.M cars provide slipstream bonus. The difficulty is that:

  • Slip streaming can be difficult to achieve consistently.
  • You’ll need to wait for slip streaming opportunities meaning the R.P.M card can clog up your hand.
  • Slip streaming can help you cross a check speed point but sometimes you can’t afford the heat cost to cross.
  • However if made use of can provide a great lead.

Fuel

Fuel cards provide the Salvage action. It allows you to look through your discard pile and choose up to a number of cards to place back into your draw deck.

It can help you obtain specific cards. Best used when you draft around this ability and know when to use it.
